Moving – Arrival Day

December 6, 2015
WelcomeToMaineCropped We are here – We are here – We are here.

We arrived at our new home just before sunsetMaineStateLineCropped today.  Four and a half days – 14 states – 2300 miles – Colorado to Maine – our home state of over 20 years to a new home in northern New England.

Ted starts his new Snap-On route January 4th.  We are renting a house near Bangor, Maine while we wait for our home in Grand Lake, Colorado to sell.  We rented this place site unseen from pictures and video online.  We didn’t have much choice as we needed some place that would allow our 3 little dogs and that would have enough space for Ted to park his Snap-On truck on the property.  Luckily it’s only a 9 month lease as the house is in bad shape.  We knew it was an old house – built in 1850 – but old is no excuse for bedrooms with no window coverings (looks like I’ll be living with sheets nailed over the windows), bathrooms with no towel racks (knew I’d find a use for those rolling plastic 4 drawer carts) and a garage filled with trash.  They also misrepresented the size of the rooms and hid things like the narrow staircase.  We determined pretty quickly that our bedroom furniture will Not go up the stairs.  So we’re going to use part of a downstairs room to simply store some of our stuff and make due with as little furniture and other stuff as we can.  Hopefully our Colorado home will sell soon so we can start looking for a home to purchase and make ours.

It’s a new beginning but ugh it’s a lot of work and stress.  We need to get new drivers licenses, re-register all the vehicles and update our address on everything.  I need to learn my way around a whole new area (thank goodness for built in GPS in my car), get used to new grocery stores, and learn the ins and outs of a new community.  But hopefully we can also enjoy discovering new restaurants, new activities and make new friends.

  1. Dolly and Ted, I have no doubt in the world that you kids are going to do just fine. There are always challenges with moves, but consider this an exploring adventure, don’t get upset, there isn’t anything you can do about it, look to the future with exitement. I love you and wish you all the best in the world.
